Company Overview

INDI EV is a startup that is working to build a design-focused electric car equipped with modern technology and a unique artificial intelligence system. Their niche product targets users who are independent-minded early adopters.

 

My Role

I worked with a team of designers in designing the mobile application that pairs with the car. Our process involved defining the company’s brand and establishing the target user. The app allows the user to interact with the car remotely, adjust settings, and locate the vehicle. The goal was to create a design that stands out among competitors in the automotive industry, while optimizing user experience.

User Research

Our main focus in conducting our research was finding our target users and understanding their needs. We sent out surveys to find patterns among the users who were more drawn to the distinctive appearance of the vehicle and the atypical features it provides.

Insights:

  • More likely to be early-adopters

  • Nonconformists, but not attention-seeking

  • Tech-native, regardless of age

  • Confident and relaxed personality type

 

Persona

We created a persona based on user research that represented our target users and assisted with establishing the company’s brand.

 
 

Branding

Establishing a cohesive brand was vital to the design process. We executed a number of branding exercises and produced brand collateral to construct our visual aesthetic and identity.

 

Information Architecture

I took it upon myself to redesign the architecture of the original wireframes to have a more minimalistic and less overwhelming design, highlighting only the most used features.

 

Interface Design

 

Summary

The final interface design for the INDI mobile app is based on the user research conducted and the company’s brand identity. The goal was to create a design that has never been seen before in the automotive industry, while incorporating all of the necessary features and maximizing usability. This initial design will be tested and necessary changes will be made.
