Testing AI UI Generators: Which Ones Actually Work for Designers
As a product designer, I’m always curious about how AI can speed up the design process. Recently, I decided to try out a bunch of AI-powered UI generators to see how they stack up. I used the same detailed prompt in v0.dev, Builder.io, UXPilot, Uizard, MagicPath, and Lovable, and here’s what I found.
v0.dev Comes Out on Top
v0.dev was the clear winner for me. It delivered a full mobile app design with every screen included, plus a working prototype. All the features I requested were there. The UI and UX weren’t amazing, but they were solid enough that I could take it and refine it further using AI. For a designer, that’s huge. It gives you a full starting point without building everything from scratch.
Most Tools Fell Short
A lot of the other generators either only created one screen or didn’t format the design for mobile dimensions, which makes them less useful for actual product work. Some of them had prettier UI, but without full app coverage or proper dimensions, it wasn’t super practical.
Lovable Is One to Watch
Lovable couldn’t handle my long, detailed prompt this time, but they’re definitely worth keeping an eye on. Their platform is really user-friendly, and the startup is growing insanely fast. They hit $100 million in annual subscription revenue just eight months after launching in November 2024. That kind of growth is hard to ignore.
Figma Integration Matters
One thing I noticed with these tools is that while you can upload Figma files to reference them, there’s no easy way to take an AI-generated UI and continue editing it in Figma. As a designer, I don’t see Figma going anywhere. It’s central to most workflows. I’d love to see AI generators complement Figma instead of competing with it, so you can get the speed of AI while keeping full control in your familiar design environment.
What This All Means
AI UI generators are improving fast. Right now, v0.dev is the most robust for full app design, while the others shine in different areas like UI polish or ease of use. As these tools evolve, I hope to see better Figma integration, more flexible prompts, and support for full, mobile-first app designs. The future of AI-assisted design is exciting and we’re just getting started.
